In the past Arab Street was the centre of Singapore’s Muslim community selling men’s songkok, Quran and prayer mats. Now the area focuses upon textiles, come to Arab Street to see bales of chiffon, silk and georgette in a rainbow of rich colours. The area has also become well known for selling batiks from Malaysia and Indonesia and other items made from cane, straw, rattan and pandan leaf.
